Post Great Plains 2010 Budget Balance Sheet
Hello,
I am having an issue that I hope someone can help resolve. In creating a balance sheet for actual versus budget, we cannot seem to get the MTD budget amount to include the beginning balance that was loaded with our budget (amount for period 0). We have used Year to Date, and it does not seem to pick up the budgeted balance for time 0. Any one have similar issue(s) that they were able to resolve?

Is period 0 the code of the period or does it display something like 201200?
If it's the latter, you could always add the 20XX00 as part of the filter. The filter would be something like:

Period in 20XX00
and Period in @Posting Period

Snaganuma,

Period 0 is the PERIODID that represents the beginning balance. What I would expect is that when you run a report via OSR that is connected to GP, and choose the year to date function, it will pick up the beginning balance as well. Similar to how the old FRx would pick up from Period 0 to Period xx.

When you are dealing with actuals, the beginning balance is stored in the Period Balance so the method of using the YTD function would work properly. However, the beginning balance (PeriodID=0) for budget does not have a separate measure (all budget values are stored in Budget Amount). In addition the the beginning balances (PeriodID = 0) are stored in Dec-31 of the previous year.

With the information above, you could accomplish your goals in several ways. One possible method is to pull in the beginning balance in a hidden column and reference that column in the report. Another is to set the filter to bring in Budget Amount for Period In Year = 0 for the previous year and the Budget Amount for the current year. You can do this by creating two different groupings.

Snaganuma,

That was also my approach, and thinking, but BI360 does not seem to recognize PERIODID = 0 from a budget standpoint. When including that value in a filter the result is equal to the year end value for the current budget year. If this is to serve as a FRx replacement, I hope that Solver will address this gap as FRx was able to recognize and include PERIODID = 0.

The beginning balance, even for budget, is necessary and will not always tie out to the actual ending balance from the previous year due to timing of when the budget is complete.

Thank you. Btw, the Period In Year filter = 0 does not work as BI360 will not identify 0 as the period; similar to PERIODID. The 0 is not even visible on the list, only 1 through 12.

This white paper is no longer downloadable from the forum,

Could someone make it available to email it?

Thanks,
